Shakespeare RAW: Troilus and Cressida (not)

    Jun 13 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

    Location:
    • Blue Ribbon Hall

    Calendar: Events

best place pabst milwaukee events shakespeare raw boozy bard productions Troilus and Cressida"Lechery, lechery, still wars and lechery! Nothing else holds fashion." Damn straight, Theristes, how do you think we've kept this nonsense going for 8 years?!

"But I'm not familiar with the play" you say, well, here's the gist: In the seventh year of the Trojan War, the Greek general, Agamemnon, wonders why his commanders seem so downcast and pessimistic. The wise and crafty Ulysses informs him that the army's troubles spring from a lack of respect for authority, brought about by the behavior of Achilles, the greatest Greek warrior, who refuses to fight and instead spends his time sitting in his tent with his comrade Patroclus, mocking his superiors.

Shortly thereafter, a challenge to single combat arrives from Prince Hector, the greatest Trojan warrior, and Ulysses decides to have Ajax, a headstrong fool, fight Hector instead of Achilles, in the hopes that this snub will wound Achilles's pride and bring him back into the war.

That afternoon, Ajax and Hector fight to a draw, and after Hector and Achilles exchange insults, Hector and Troilus feast with the Greeks under a flag of truce. The next day, in spite of unhappy premonitions from his wife, sister, and his father, Hector takes the field. The Trojans drive the Greeks back, but Patroclus is killed, which brings a vengeful Achilles back into the war, finally. Achilles is unable to defeat Hector in single combat, but he later catches him unarmed and, together with a gang of Greek warriors, slaughters him. There is more but you will have to stop in to see the ending.

You'll have three opportunities to catch this spectacle, June 13th, 14th and 15th all at 7:30pm. Doors officially open at 7pm. Cost is $10 at the door or $5 if you're in Rainbow/Pride attire. Don't overthink it and just be yourself. That $5 you save will likely be enough to get you a beverage at the bar so it's worth it.

Shakespeare Raw: A Midsummer Night's Dream

    Jul 11 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

    Location:
    • Blue Ribbon Hall

    Calendar: Events

best place pabst milwaukee events shakespeare raw midsummer nights dream“I have had a most rare vision. I have had a dream, past the wit of man to say what dream it was." Oh God, I hate when people tell me about their dreams...

We will be heading deep in the forests of Athens among the fairy folk with Shakespeare's beloved Fantasy classic "A Midsummer Night's Dream". But because it's us, we will be playing in our distinct style, "Shakespeare Raw".

"But I'm not familiar with the play" you say, well, here's the gist: Shakespeare's intertwined love polygons begin to get complicated from the start--Demetrius and Lysander both want Hermia but she only has eyes for Lysander. Bad news is, Hermia's father wants Demetrius for a son-in-law. On the outside is Helena, whose unreturned love burns hot for Demetrius. Hermia and Lysander plan to flee from the city under cover of darkness but are pursued by an enraged Demetrius (who is himself pursued by an enraptured Helena). In the forest, unbeknownst to the mortals, Oberon and Titania (King and Queen of the fairies) are having a spat over a servant boy. And then it gets complicated.

Cost is $10 at the door or $5 if you're in Outdoor gear. Don't know what that means? Well, did you know that clothing sold at places like Erehwon and North Face are suitable for activities like hiking and canoeing? Yeah, not just walking to the nearest fair-trade coffee shop.

So get ready for a night of wacky times because “The course of true love never did run smooth.”
