    • Blue Ribbon Hall

    Calendar: Events

best place pabst milwaukee shakespeare raw twelfth night“Olivia: What's a drunken man like, fool?" "Feste: Like a drowned man, a fool, and a madman: one draught above heat makes him a fool; the second mads him; and a third drowns him.” And what happens at drinks 4, 5, and 6? Let's find out!

"But I'm not familiar with the play" you say, well, here's the gist: Brother and sister Viola and Sebastian, who are not only very close but look a great deal alike, are in a shipwreck, and both think the other dead. When she lands in a foreign country, Viola dresses as her brother and adopts the name Cesario, becoming a trusted friend and confidante to the Count Orsino. Orsino is madly in love with the lady Olivia, who is in mourning due to her brother's recent death, which she uses as an excuse to avoid seeing the count, whom she does not love. He sends Cesario to do his wooing, and Olivia falls in love with the disguised maiden. Things get more complicated when a moronic nobleman, Sir Andrew Aguecheek, and a self-important servant, Malvolio, get caught up. Stop in to find out the ending.

Cost is FREE! Seriously, no cover for this one. So, show up, have fun, and remember: "If music be the food of love, play on."

Shakespeare RAW: Troilus and Cressida (not)

    Jun 15 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

    Location:
    • Blue Ribbon Hall

    Calendar: Events

best place pabst milwaukee events shakespeare raw boozy bard productions Troilus and Cressida"Lechery, lechery, still wars and lechery! Nothing else holds fashion." Damn straight, Theristes, how do you think we've kept this nonsense going for 8 years?!

"But I'm not familiar with the play" you say, well, here's the gist: In the seventh year of the Trojan War, the Greek general, Agamemnon, wonders why his commanders seem so downcast and pessimistic. The wise and crafty Ulysses informs him that the army's troubles spring from a lack of respect for authority, brought about by the behavior of Achilles, the greatest Greek warrior, who refuses to fight and instead spends his time sitting in his tent with his comrade Patroclus, mocking his superiors.

Shortly thereafter, a challenge to single combat arrives from Prince Hector, the greatest Trojan warrior, and Ulysses decides to have Ajax, a headstrong fool, fight Hector instead of Achilles, in the hopes that this snub will wound Achilles's pride and bring him back into the war.

That afternoon, Ajax and Hector fight to a draw, and after Hector and Achilles exchange insults, Hector and Troilus feast with the Greeks under a flag of truce. The next day, in spite of unhappy premonitions from his wife, sister, and his father, Hector takes the field. The Trojans drive the Greeks back, but Patroclus is killed, which brings a vengeful Achilles back into the war, finally. Achilles is unable to defeat Hector in single combat, but he later catches him unarmed and, together with a gang of Greek warriors, slaughters him. There is more but you will have to stop in to see the ending.

You'll have three opportunities to catch this spectacle, June 13th, 14th and 15th all at 7:30pm. Doors officially open at 7pm. Cost is $10 at the door or $5 if you're in Rainbow/Pride attire. Don't overthink it and just be yourself. That $5 you save will likely be enough to get you a beverage at the bar so it's worth it.

    Location:

    Calendar: Events

best place pabst milwaukee shakespeare raw much ado about nothing"Well, then, go you into hell?"

No, but to the Best Place for May's performance of "Shakespeare Raw: Much Ado About Nothing"! Three shows in a row! (Hopefully.)

"But I'm not familiar with the play" you say, well, here's the gist:

Leonato, the governor of Messina, is visited by his friend Don Pedro who is returning from a victorious campaign against his rebellious brother Don John. Accompanying Don Pedro are two of his officers: Benedick and Claudio. While in Messina, Claudio falls for Leonato's daughter Hero, while Benedick verbally spars with Beatrice, the governor's niece. The budding love between Claudio and Hero prompts Don Pedro to arrange with Leonato for a marriage. And stop in for the rest.........

    Everyone following so far?

Cost is $10 at the door or $5 if you're in "wedding wear". What is "wedding wear"? Well, like most of these deals, it's a pretty loose interpretation. Sure, if you've got a tux collecting dust or an old bridesmaid dress you don't hate, feel free to wear it; but maybe you have a tuxedo t-shirt or a cocktail dress you were wearing in Vegas when you had 5 long islands too many and met "this guy who is soooooo the one" and hit that drive-thru chapel. Basically, convince my door person that you'd wear it to a wedding and you get the $5. That's another $5 you can spend at the bar.

"Sigh no more, ladies, sigh no more,
    Men were deceivers ever,
One foot in sea and one on shore,
    To one thing constant never"
